January By: John Updike
The days are short,
The sun a spark
Hung thin between
The dark and dark
Fat snowy foot steps
Track the floor.
Milk bottles burst
Outside the door.
The river is
A frozen place
Held still beneath
The trees of lace.

Early Morning By: Hilaire Belloc
The moon on the one hand,
The dawn on the other:
The moon is my sister,
The dawn is my brother,
The moon on my left and
The dawn on my right-
My brother good morning;
My sister good night.

Science By: Caitlin Bay
I know you this year
I knew you last year
But never the year before.
I was living without:
Metric units,
Measuring tricks,
Silly songs of water;
Who taught me what was what ,
And the many things that count.
I will never know without you why:
Water runs,
And birds sing;
High in the sky above.
Oh science teach me,
What is what,
So that I may pass it on.
***This poem is in honer of the 1/2 lunar eclipse tonight, and the transit of Venus tomorrow, that only occurs twice every 120 years! :) I'm honored to be able to experience it!!! :) :) :) :)

The Lion By: Hilaire Belloc
The Lion, the Lion, he dwells in the waste,
He has a big head and a very small waist;
But his shoulders are stark, and his jaws
they are grim,
And a good little child would not play with
him.

Singing By: Robert Louis Stevenson
Of speckled eggs the birdie sings
And nests among the trees;
The sailor sings of ropes and things
In ships upon the seas.
The children sing in far Japan,
The children sing in Spain;
The organ with the organ man
Is singing in the rain.

The Horseman By:Walter De La Mare
I heard a horseman
Ride over the hill;
The moon shone clear;The night was still;
His helm was silver;
And pale was he;
And the horse he rode
Was of ivory.

I Heard A Bird Sing By: Oliver Herford
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December
A magical thing
And sweet to remember
We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December

Dreams By: Langston Hughes
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

Dream Dust By; Langston Hughes
Gather out of star-dust
Earth-dust
Cloud-dust
Storm-dust
And splinters of hail,
One handful of dream-dust
Not for sale.

Christmas Eve By: Caitlin Bay
Christmas Eve;
A time of song
And happy;
But little ole' Amy
Sits under the tree,
Waiting for Santie Paws:
He comes in the gloom
At midnight;
And steals all the toys and candy;
Ole' Santie paws brings all these toys and candy
To little miss under the Christmas tree Amy,
Who shakes her head, and says:
"If you want sad in childrens eyes;
Tell them this:
Their very own parents put presents under the tree;
Not Santa.
So every Christmas Eve,
When a very meak child turns six;
Ole' Santie paws comes and whispers:
Mother and Father give you gifts
When it tis' Christmas Eve;
The time for song and happy.
His helm was silver;
And pale was he;
And the horse he rode
Was of ivory.
